Job Overview: The Director of Construction Administration is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the integration of design intent, quality assurance, and quality control throughout all project phases, ensuring project success from documentation to construction completion. This role also focuses on mentoring junior staff in construction administration best practices, fostering their growth, and strengthening the firm's expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead cross-disciplinary coordination efforts to streamline the delivery process and foster collaboration among architecture, interiors, and landscape teams.
- Champion design excellence by ensuring all phases of the project align with the firm’s standards and client expectations.
- Advocate for continual improvement of QA/QC and construction administration processes to enhance the firm’s overall performance.
- Leadership of Construction Administration Across All Projects:
- Provide strategic oversight and leadership for the construction phase of all projects, ensuring alignment with design goals, schedules, and budgets.
- Oversee the construction administration staff, project managers and design staff as it relates to construction administration.
- Responsible for the financial success of the construction administration phases of the firm’s projects.
- Develop and maintain a schedule for all construction projects.
- Act as the primary decision-maker on construction-related issues, resolving challenges efficiently and maintaining project momentum.
- Collaborate with design teams and clients to reinforce the firm's commitment to high-quality project delivery.
- Integrated QA/QC and Construction Oversight:
- Implement and maintain quality assurance and quality control procedures during design, documentation, and construction phases.
- Conduct thorough reviews of drawings and specifications to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
- Serve as the primary liaison with contractors and consultants, providing solutions to construction-related issues while maintaining the integrity of the design intent.
- Conduct site visits and field observations to ensure progress aligns with project goals, budget, and quality standards.
- Mentorship and Team Development:
- Guide and mentor junior staff in construction administration processes, including RFI management, submittal reviews, and site observation techniques.
- Provide training and support to younger team members, fostering technical skills and professional growth.
- Lead by example in effective communication, problem-solving, and collaboration with stakeholders.
- Integrate lessons learned from past projects into mentorship initiatives, improving team capabilities.
What we look for:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture or Construction Management from an accredited university
- Professional Licensure | NC Architectural Registration preferred
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience, construction management, or coordination experience, preferably supporting multi-family/mixed use projects
- Experience in construction quality control, quality inspections, and construction inspection is mandatory
- Demonstrable knowledge of North Carolina building code and inspection procedures
- In-depth knowledge and experience in all phases of Architecture and construction
- Experience with multi-family and mixed-used projects preferred
- Experience in wood framed construction is required
- Strong organizational skills, proven problem-solving experience, and meticulous attention to detail including preparing and issuing field reports
- Demonstrated skills in production and coordination of construction documents, and contract administration
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact positively with others to solve problems, and to constructively communicate those solutions to others
- Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple deadlines, and perform responsibilities effectively and on time with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to lead a team of professionals in construction administration.
- Travel between company offices and job sites is required.
